Discover Orient Odyssey

If you’re driving down 511 N Broadway, Jericho, NY 11753, United States, it’s easy to miss the understated storefront of Orient Odyssey-but once you step inside, you’ll remember it. I first visited on a chilly Friday evening after hearing several local reviews praise the house-made dumplings and Peking duck. From the outside, it feels like a typical neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Inside, however, the warm lighting, polished wooden tables, and the soft hum of conversation give it a relaxed, family-style dining vibe that instantly feels welcoming.

On my first visit, I ordered a mix of classic Cantonese and Sichuan dishes to see how the kitchen handled contrast. The menu is broad yet focused, featuring staples like General Tso’s chicken, Mongolian beef, and lo mein, alongside more traditional options such as mapo tofu and whole steamed fish with ginger and scallions. What stood out immediately was balance. According to the National Restaurant Association, diners increasingly prioritize freshness and authenticity in Asian cuisine, and you can taste that shift here. The vegetables were crisp, the sauces layered rather than overly sweet, and the proteins cooked just right-not greasy, not dry.

The dumplings deserve special attention. I watched through the open kitchen window as staff folded them by hand before steaming. That process matters. Handmade dumplings typically retain better texture because the dough thickness can be adjusted manually, something pre-packaged wrappers rarely achieve. When they arrived at the table, they were tender with a juicy pork and chive filling. It reminded me of a culinary workshop I once attended with a dim sum chef trained in Hong Kong, who emphasized that proper dumpling pleating locks in moisture and flavor. You can tell the cooks here understand that technique.

Another highlight is the Peking duck, which requires a meticulous preparation process. Traditionally, the duck is air-dried to achieve crisp skin, then roasted at a controlled temperature. The version here follows that method closely. The skin had that delicate crackle, while the meat stayed succulent. Served with thin pancakes, scallions, and hoisin sauce, it offered a build-your-own experience that feels interactive and satisfying. It’s dishes like this that elevate Orient Odyssey beyond a standard takeout spot.

Health-conscious diners will also appreciate the steamed options and customizable spice levels. The American Heart Association recommends moderating sodium intake, and while Chinese cuisine can sometimes be sodium-heavy, the staff here are accommodating. On my second visit, I asked for light sauce and reduced salt in a shrimp and broccoli dish. The result was still flavorful, proving that thoughtful cooking techniques-like quick stir-frying over high heat-can enhance natural taste without over-reliance on salt.

The service is another strong point. During a busy Saturday dinner rush, our server managed multiple tables without missing details. Water glasses stayed full, dishes arrived promptly, and special requests were handled without hesitation. Reviews from local diners often mention consistent hospitality, and from my experience, that reputation holds up. The restaurant seems to thrive on repeat customers, families who know exactly what they’ll order before they sit down.

Location-wise, being in Jericho makes it convenient for both residents and visitors exploring Long Island. Parking is straightforward, which is a small but important detail for anyone planning a relaxed dine-in meal. Takeout and delivery options are available too, and packaging during my takeaway order was secure-no spills, no soggy containers.

It’s worth noting that while the menu is extensive, some highly regional specialties you might find in larger city Chinatowns aren’t available here. That said, what they do offer is executed with consistency and care. From sizzling platters to comforting noodle bowls, the kitchen shows technical understanding and respect for traditional flavors while adapting to local preferences.

After multiple visits, I can confidently say Orient Odyssey strikes that sweet spot between authenticity and approachability. Whether you’re scanning reviews for your next dinner spot or simply craving expertly prepared Asian cuisine in Jericho, this place delivers flavorful dishes, reliable service, and a menu that keeps you coming back to explore more.

  • This place was cool. The service was good and my server sold me on some dumplings I didn’t really like but i liked how she pushed the sale lol. The ribs were pretty good. And so was the pad Thai. The place was quiet which is what I was looking for. If I were in the area I’d go back here. Love their green tea too.

  • A hidden gem at the far end of a shopping center in Jericho. This part of the shopping center is not as busy so there is much less traffic. This place is Flushing quality. They do Dim Sum well. Most of the patrons are Asian which is a great sign. Reasonably priced. Card payments are accepted. Always busy on Sunday. Give it a try if you can’t make it to Queens. We will definitely be going back.

  • We were 3 couples and we all ordered apertisers, dumplings, soup, spicy pork belly and egg roll. Then we all ordered an entree. Unfortunately every one received theirs but I didn't. After a few minutes I asked the waiter where my entree was he checked and admitted that he forgot to put my order in. I told him to forget about my order because we had plenty left over from the others, it was a lot of food and I still will go back because the food was outstanding. The various flavors of the different dishes were the best I've had at a Chinese restaurant.

  • Orient Odyssey is easily one of the best restaurants in the area. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and served in generous portions, all at a great value. The service is excellent and quick, and the place is always busy, which speaks to its popularity and quality. A go-to spot for authentic and satisfying Chinese cuisine.

  • The dim sum is as good as that in some flushing places. However, they stop serving dim sum at 3pm. We arrived at 2:55 and was initially told not serving anymore. However, they accommodated after we pointed out that it was not yet 3pm. The stand out was the rice roll with shrimp where the skin was soft, thin, and smooth.
